Life Passes By

A white wash over a picket fence
A slate of unfortunate events
And life passes by

A lover whose name has faded
A life for nothing traded
And life passes by

Being set free on gilded wings
Cast aside by caged kings
And life passes by

The dreams I wanted so
Mocked by a flighty crow
And life passes by

It’s never what I wanted
It’s the life I’ve always hunted
It’s the one that passes by
It’s the one that makes me cry
It’s the life gone to hell
That makes me yell
It’s the pain that is not mine
The existence in decline

The sanity that slips away
The sad song of the jay
And life passes by

The sleep that slides in on silver wings
The joy for which happiness springs
And life passes by

The sounds of a spider in her web
The will of life that now shall ebb
And life passes by

The promise of choices that fill
The power of ones free will
And life passes by

It’s the game of illusions
It’s jumping to the wrong conclusions
It’s persuasions that strangle
It’s the calling of an angel
It’s the darkness that comes for me
That is the ticket to flee
Crying in the middle of the night
Making things feel a bit more right
