Exit Road

Sixty-two with Twentynine Palms behind me.
Pink sunset air – a sight I've never seen before.
Ranch houses – a squeaky wind mill turns in the breeze.
Ahead – a blacktop highway, straight and narrow.
No cars behind me.
No cars ahead.
Only the moon making a slow ascent.
Moon lit valley among darkened rugged mountains.
Luna halo; round, bright, large.
Leaving California now.
Sweet sorrow.
Thank you, goodbye.
